During the 18th Baltic Conference on Intellectual Cooperation, 'Energy for a Future Society', the laureates of the 2023 Baltic Academies of Sciences medals were announced. Among the recipients is Baiba Rivža, professor and leading researcher at the Faculty of Economics and Social Development of the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LBTU, formerly LLU) and an academician of the Latvian Academy of Sciences.

The Baltic Academies of Sciences medals were awarded this year to: LBTU professor and LZA academician Baiba Rivža, Dr. Jūras Banys from the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, and Dr. Arvi Hamburg from the Estonian Academy of Sciences.

B. Rivža was awarded the Baltic Academies of Sciences medal and diploma for strengthening cooperation between the Baltic academies of sciences, as well as for outstanding research achievements in economics. A total of 32 medals have been awarded to Baltic scientists, and LBTU professor and academician Baiba Rivža is the first female scientist to receive this medal.

It should be noted that the joint medals of the Baltic states' academies of sciences were first awarded during the 1999 Riga conference. The decision on awarding the medals is made by a joint jury commission from all three academies. While the wording inscribed on each laureate's diploma differs, they are all united by their contribution to fostering cooperation between scientists in the Baltic region and the development of joint scientific research.
