As spring approaches, AS “Latvijas valsts meži” (LVM) invites those interested to sign up for the Open Forest Days events, which will take place this year in April and May across all LVM regions. During 12 different events, families and groups will have the opportunity to plant new forest stands and learn more about the importance of forest regeneration.
“Together with experienced experts, participants of the Open Forest Days will plant trees, gaining an understanding of the forest as Latvia’s largest renewable resource, which helps to mitigate climate change. This year, LVM plans to plant more than 29 million new saplings in state forests. Each of the planted trees, as it grows, absorbs carbon dioxide from the air through photosynthesis and stores carbon in the wood while releasing oxygen. Young and middle-aged stands grow faster, diligently absorbing carbon dioxide and using it for growth,” explains LVM Forestry Executive Director Edmunds Linde.
LVM Open Forest Days events are free of charge. All necessary planting equipment will be provided by LVM, but participants must arrange their own transport to the event location and provide their own snacks to maintain energy, as well as suitable clothing for a forest visit. We encourage you to register for events in time, as the number of participants is limited!
