In a letter to the Ministry of Economics, the Latvian Forest Industry Federation and the Furniture Manufacturers' Association are calling for the lifting of restrictions on furniture retail stores during weekdays.

Furniture retail premises are traditionally very large, making it easy to regulate the flow of people and prevent any possibility of crowding. There are no facts to support the current need to specifically ban the sale of furniture in stores. Furthermore, the imposed restrictions threaten severe losses or even bankruptcy for more than 100 local furniture manufacturers and retailers. Therefore, representatives of the forestry sector and traders believe that the decision is disproportionately discriminatory against one sector and must be revoked.
