The purchase of nine battery trains could cost approximately 75-76 million euros, said Kristiāns Godiņš, Chairman of the Board of the Road Transport Administration.

He explained that the procurement of battery trains is a new function that has been entrusted to the Road Transport Administration, as the administration previously worked on bus transport procurements, while train rolling stock was the responsibility of a/s "Pasažieru vilciens".

This procurement will be carried out using European Union Recovery Fund money, which is intended for reducing the use of environmentally unfriendly transport, and one of the solutions is the purchase of battery trains to replace diesel trains.
