A topical subject of debate in the European Union is the proposal to ban or restrict the hunting of migratory birds, and these ideas are often based on emotion, as well as on somewhat distorted data. Although the question is not a new one, in recent years the methodology for assessing the sustainability of hunting has become far more sophisticated and scientifically grounded.
