Biodiversity and logging: forests at Koski Manor are both protected and harvested

The forests near Koski Manor have been used in various ways over the years. When the manor was founded on the banks of the Kiskonjoki River 340 years ago, water and wood were necessary to fuel the smelting furnaces. As the forest was felled, a view opened up towards the manor building.

A herd of cattle grazes peacefully on the banks of the quiet Kiskonjoki. The river, described as a rare gem of the southern Finnish coast, flows into the Baltic Sea about 100 km west of Helsinki.

When Fredrik von Limburg Stirum began managing the manor in 2007, his goal was clear: management of the forest and farm must be as environmentally friendly as possible.
