Due to the irresponsible behaviour of residents, the Babīte Municipal Council has decided to remove waste sorting bins for lightweight packaging—specifically plastic, paper and metal—from all public sorting points, according to information published on the municipality's website.

Furthermore, glass recycling containers will also be removed from public waste sorting points owned by the municipality. They will remain at all other glass container locations within the municipality.

This decision was taken because the situation at public waste sorting points has not improved; the bins are regularly filled with inappropriate waste and remain overflowing even after changes were made to waste collection schedules and the waste management operator was brought in to provide enhanced site monitoring and cleaning.
