The study course “Basic Knowledge for National Defence” has been developed over two years, and its purpose is to introduce students to the fundamental principles of national military defence, to explain the duties of citizens in the event of a military threat to the country, and to provide an insight into basic military skills. This autumn, the 32-hour study course is intended for 2nd-year students in the “Forest Science”, “Forest Engineering”, and “Wood Processing” undergraduate programmes at the LLU Faculty of Forestry. However, after the first year of training, it is planned to refine the course and gradually introduce it in all faculties.

The study course is unique within the Latvian higher education system, and LLU is the first university to introduce it as a mandatory part of the study process.
