(...) Until now, we purchased approximately one million cubic metres of softwood planks per year from Russia and Belarus. Why did we buy them if we are ourselves a major timber-producing country? The reason was very simple - Russian and Belarusian planks were cheaper, and it was possible to purchase such low-processed products that Latvian sawmills do not allow out through their factory gates.
