A study on communication between the public and private sectors, conducted by Futurum Latvia – a think tank established by the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LTRK), the country's largest business association – reveals dissatisfaction among the parties involved, a lack of communication efficiency, and issues with information exchange between state institutions and entrepreneurs.
On 9 February 2022, (...) experts presented a study conducted in the autumn of 2021 regarding communication between entrepreneurs and public administration. Its aim was to examine information exchange between the parties involved over the past year and to develop recommendations for improving communication and feedback. The study involved entrepreneurs and representatives of business associations from across Latvia, with a total of 176 respondents.
98.08% of the entrepreneurs surveyed as part of the study believe that communication between the public and private sectors is too fragmented, insufficient, and low in intensity, noting that they do not feel a mutual connection with public administration or that they have to obtain information themselves. The vast majority note that the initiative for communication comes from them, and there is no proactive action from state institutions on issues important to entrepreneurs. Furthermore, entrepreneurs do not feel there is regular feedback, and they point to this as a major problem because, in their view, successful and active feedback between entrepreneurs and public administration promotes business development and improves public administration's understanding of the business environment in Latvia and the world. Private sector participants also highlight an overload of information, bureaucratic obstacles, and a formal approach to communication by state institutions aimed at informing rather than engaging and building a dialogue as negative aspects of communication.
