The Christmas season in Latvia is inextricably linked to one of its main symbols – the spruce, which 'decorates castles and cottages'. How well do we know this evergreen lady, the third most popular tree species in Latvia, with only pine and birch occupying larger areas, and which enters our homes and hearts every December? Solveiga Luguza, a lecturer and researcher at the LLU Faculty of Forest, reveals that people usually know very little about the spruce and only a few truly know this tree.
