An additional €1.5 million in state budget funding will be available for 10 pilot projects to renovate apartment buildings using industrially manufactured timber frame panels, the government decided on 1 April, approving amendments to Cabinet of Ministers Regulation No. 880 of 17 December 2024, “Conditions of the support programme for the implementation of energy efficiency improvement measures in apartment buildings”. The funding allocated will make it possible to direct up to an additional 20% towards the support of a single project, but no more than EUR 150,000 of the project's eligible costs.

Minister for Economics Viktors Valainis: “This is a significant step not only towards improving energy efficiency in Latvia, but also towards promoting sustainable construction. With these projects we will not only renovate old apartment buildings, but also give an impetus to the local economy by creating demand for high-quality industrially manufactured timber frame panels. We are giving preference to green energy and to sustainable construction technologies that open the way to the Latvia of the future.”

The additional funding is intended to supplement the existing support programme, under which support of 50% is available from European Union fund financing where industrially manufactured timber frame panels are used in the renovation of an apartment building. As a result, with the further 20% of support, the total support for a single project will be able to reach as much as 70%. This approach will not only reduce buildings' energy consumption, but will also foster the growth of local manufacturers by offering new products on the market.
