On 14 April 2023, the Constitutional Assembly took place, with the election of the Daugavpils University Rector on the agenda.

With a convincing majority, Academician Arvīds Barševskis was elected Rector of Daugavpils University, receiving 32 out of the 50 votes cast by the Constitutional Assembly members.

32 in favour, 5 against, 12 ballot papers were declared invalid.

The newly elected Rector takes office following the expiry of the previous Rector's term on 26 April 2023.

In accordance with the Law on Higher Education Institutions and the Daugavpils University Rector election regulations, the Rector is elected by the Constitutional Assembly for a term of five years.
