On 15 June 2023 at 10.00, as part of the "Let's Catch the Aliens in Latvia's Nature" campaign, everyone is invited to participate in a cleanup event organised by the Nature Conservation Agency's LatViaNature project and the World Wide Fund for Nature to control dangerous invasive species in the "Vecdaugava" nature reserve in Riga. Together with leading experts on invasive species, participants will have the opportunity to learn methods for controlling invasive species, ask specialists questions, and help control the spread of "alien" newcomers. Participation must be registered by 12 June by filling out the application form. A mobile Nature Classroom will also be on-site, featuring educational activities about invasive species to further enhance learning.

In the "Vecdaugava" nature reserve, invasive species have spread over an area of approximately seven hectares – specifically the Himalayan balsam, which is recognised as one of the most invasive species not only in Latvia but throughout Europe, and the rugosa rose. Gloves and the necessary equipment will be provided to participants. The meeting point will be at Skanstnieku iela on the bank of the Vecdaugava, at the entrance to the "Vecdaugava" nature reserve.
