Voting for the European Tree of the Year in Latvia begins on 6 September 2021
On 22 May 2021, the 'European Tree of the Year in Latvia' competition began for the first time in Latvia, aiming to identify and learn about trees with fascinating stories, impressive sizes, and a significant role in preserving cultural-historical heritage and natural values.
The European Tree of the Year competition has been held in other European countries since 2002, organised by organisations related to forests, land, the environment, and history.
There are 6,843,977,334 trees counted in Latvia, yet we had not participated in this competition until now – this is the inaugural year.
Ten finalists have been selected, and the winner will be determined by a public vote. The winner will 'take part' in the European competition.
We would like to remind voters: in this competition, both the tree and the story are equally important.
