Ecologists have studied 256 specimens of Araucaria columnaris across five continents and concluded that the average angle of tree tilt (inclination) is 8° 55', which is almost twice the tilt of the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Araucaria columnaris, also known as the Cook pine, New Caledonia pine, or Cook araucaria, are very tall trees that can reach 60 metres or more. In ancient times, they were found only on the islands of New Caledonia in the Pacific Ocean, but over time they have spread to subtropical and temperate climate regions across the world.
