The minuscule lizard is smaller than many insects, let alone its "closest relatives".

Found in northern Madagascar, the tiny animal is one of the smallest vertebrates on Earth. Its Latin name is Brookesia nana. The length of the male chameleon, including the tail, is up to 25 mm, while females are "considerably" larger - almost 40 mm (4 cm). Until the discovery of Brookesia nana, its "relative" Brookesia micra, whose specimens do not exceed 29 mm in length, was considered the smallest chameleon.
