Survey reveals the most popular “Latvijas valsts meži” recreational sites

87% of Latvia's population consider the opportunity to visit Latvian forests and spend their leisure time there to be important, according to the results of a survey on nature tourism opportunities in state-owned forests conducted this autumn by the SKDS research centre. People most frequently go to the forest for walks (71%) and to observe nature (60%), while more than half go to pick mushrooms and berries.

The study also identified the most frequently visited tourism and recreation sites managed by LVM across Latvia's regions. As the most popular recreational destination in Zemgale, respondents mentioned the Latvijas valsts meži Tērvete Nature Park (70%), as well as the Engure Lake Nature Park, Ložmetējkalns and Tīreļpurvs, and Lake Kaņieris. In Kurzeme, the LVM Jaunmoku pils was recognised as the favourite tourism site, while in Sēlija, it was the Skrīveri Dendrological Park. When relaxing in nature in the Vidzeme region, residents enjoy walking along the nature trail on the banks of the Līgatne River, while in Latgale, they particularly appreciate the magnificent landscape at Lake Čertoks.
