Scientists are proposing that approximately half of the Earth's land and oceans should be set aside for nature conservation. Is this step necessary, or should it be considered something "pulled out of thin air"?
This idea first attracted attention in 2016 with the release of biologist E.O. Wilson's book "Half-Earth: Our Planet's Fight for Life". Although at the time such a thought was considered irrational and overly ambitious, a significant number of people are starting to take this idea seriously, seeing in it not only a potential "shield" for preserving biodiversity but also an opportunity to mitigate climate change.
