Peaty soil layer published on the Rural Support Service public map

A peaty soil layer has been published on the Rural Support Service map https://karte.lad.gov.lv/.

The peaty soil layer in Latvia was analysed and the map was created as part of a project coordinated by the Ministry of Agriculture entitled "Improving sustainable soil resource management in agriculture". Experts from the Norwegian Institute of Bioeconomy Research provided significant support during the study.

Farmers whose fields are identified as having a peaty soil layer may plough them no more than once every 5 years, but are permitted to disc, harrow, or direct-seed.
