To overcome the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic and the impact caused by the unstable geopolitical situation, Latvia must become an economically developed, competitive and secure country with a modern education system, accessible healthcare for everyone, and one where every resident of Latvia sees their future. To achieve this, the five largest social and cooperation partners of the Cabinet of Ministers – the Employers' Confederation of Latvia (LDDK), the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LTRK), the Free Trade Union Confederation of Latvia (LBAS), the Latvian Academy of Sciences (LZA) and the Latvian Association of Local and Regional Governments (LPS) – signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Tuesday, 24 May, which provides for future coordination of actions and a unified position in negotiations with state administration to achieve the set goals.
On behalf of the organisations, the memorandum was signed by the Chair of the Free Trade Union Confederation of Latvia Egils Baldzēns, the Chair of the Latvian Association of Local and Regional Governments Gints Kaminskis, the President of the Latvian Academy of Sciences Ivars Kalviņš, the President of the Employers' Confederation of Latvia Andris Bite and the President of the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Aigars Rostovskis.
The signatories to the memorandum undertake to ensure that Latvia becomes:
- a growth platform for valued, knowledgeable people who aspire to opportunities for growth, as well as for exporting, competitive and productive enterprises,
- a secure country protected from military threats with an appropriate defence budget,
- an economically developed, competitive and export-capable country,
- a country with a developed and accessible healthcare system for everyone,
- a country where residents want to live and raise families,
- a country with an efficient and non-bureaucratic public administration.
