To become a lord, one euro is enough. That is exactly the sum for which Lielā muiža in the Madliena parish of the Ogre municipality is being sold. However, the owner of the manor points out that this amount is merely a legal formality. The next owner must prove that they have sufficient funds available to reconstruct the historic building.
Rasma Vērpēja from Madliena studied in the parish school housed in the manor building during the 1960s, which was liquidated in 1972. She admits with sadness that, following the school's closure, the building—which locals call the Big Manor (Lielā muiža)—was ransacked. Currently, only memories remain of a well-maintained manor complex.
