Historian Zigmārs Turčinskis (1974) has dedicated his latest research to the resistance movement against the Soviet occupation in Latvia, carried out by the national partisan "Independence Unit" of Northern Latgale (ZLNV). This is a story based on documents and testimonies about the formation, activities, and demise of this national partisan organisation, while also reporting on other groups in the area. This monograph was produced as a tribute to mark the 75th anniversary since the first battles of the national partisans began in Northern Latgale.
