A beekeeper with a camera on his shoulder – Māris Kreicbergs

When it comes to bees, many of us remember Winnie the Pooh's observation: “You never can tell with bees.” At the Kreicbergs family farm “Andulaiši” in Zvārde, Saldus municipality, Māris has been involved in beekeeping for 23 years, and he disagrees with Pooh's observation. Over these years, Māris has managed to get to know bees well, and as a result, the number of colonies is increasing every year.

The last time we visited Māris, his bee population was estimated at around 800 colonies. How many bee colonies are there now, and how hard have they been working this summer?

Now I have more than 900 bee colonies. Just like for other farmers, weather conditions are important for beekeepers too, as they largely influence the honey harvest. (...)
