An atypically high number of avalanches has been observed in East Iceland, North Iceland and the fjords in the western part of the country, reports the Icelandic Meteorological Office, which has received 133 reports of avalanches occurring over 10 days. It is possible that the actual number of avalanches could be significantly higher. Representatives of the national Civil Protection Service warn of an existing avalanche risk in the aforementioned areas due to the uncertain situation.
